BACKGROUND
2026 PAC, ENG.SU-APLX & ETA 35th Anniversary International Symposium on English Language Teaching and Learning, themed Transformative English Education: Integrating Technology, Humanity and Sustainability, highlights the urgent need to rethink the purposes and practices of English language teaching in the 21st century. With rapid technological innovations reshaping communication, teaching and learning environments, and assessment, educators must explore how digital tools can enhance language acquisition while preserving humanistic values. Equally pressing are global concerns of equity, inclusion, and sustainability, which demand that English education move beyond functional skills to foster intercultural understanding, social responsibility, and ecological awareness. By bringing together perspectives from applied linguistics, pedagogy, technology, cultural studies, and translation and interpreting, this symposium aims to generate critical dialogues on how to integrate technological advancement with human-centered and sustainable approaches. It provides a platform for scholars and practitioners to share empirical research, pedagogical innovations, and policy insights, thereby contributing to a transformative vision of English education that is responsive to both local needs and global challenges.
